Yesterday evening was a blessing as we had a dinner to welcome guests from Ensenada Mexico. They came for planning meetings this weekend for future ministry in our partnership with their church and also to lead worship for us this morning.

Seeing them last night brought back some memories of my visit to their city in June 2010. I have been blessed to travel on eleven ministry trips. If I were to rank my trips for being my favorite I would actually rank my one trip to Mexico as last, but not because of the people there.

I broke a tooth a few days before we left and saw a dentist. He didn’t want to do anything before I left and told me I should be okay to wait until I came back. Well, my tooth got infected and I was in pain starting the morning we flew out. On top of that I got bronchitis. Fortunately I was able to get antibiotics there, but it was a major downer for my trip.

Even that trip is an example for me of the truth of Romans 8:

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who  have been called according to his purpose.”

One morning as I was  praying while I was there, the idea came to me that I should study Spanish. After I returned to my city, I went to visit my older brother and his family for the fourth of July. My prayer was that if God wanted me to study Spanish, it would need to be at the downtown campus and the 5:30 pm class or I couldn’t do it because of  my schedule. When I returned from visiting my brother, I went to the registration office and found out there was one more opening for the class downtown at 5:30 pm. That began my year of studying Spanish.

Studying Spanish opened opportunities for me to share the love of Jesus with people from many Spanish speaking countries.

God took my worst experience on a ministry trip and turned it into a big positive in my life.

Last night I practiced my Spanish with our guests. This morning I saw a friend of mine from Mexico who is here studying to become a Nurse and greeted her in Spanish.

In the midst of our bad experiences, if we pray to seek God’s will, we can discover new things.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.
