After finishing up my classes for the quarter Monday evening, yesterday was just what I needed. It was one of those days where God meets me in many small ways.

Monday evening my students brought food to celebrate the end of the quarter and they let me take home the leftovers. That meant that my food yesterday was Ceviche a food from Mexico, Papusas food from El Salvador, and Kebab food from Iraq. To top it all off I had some delicious gluten free cupcakes. So after sleeping in late, I had a delicious lunch following my favorite recipe of warming up food someone gives me to take home 🙂

In the afternoon I met with Karen my student from Mexico. I always enjoy meeting with her, It is so easy for me to teach people like Karen who have a calm and gentle spirit.

In the evening I met Karen and her husband Raine at Jazz in June an evening in Brazil. I have been to Brazil twice and love the culture. The evening was over two hours of Bossa Nova, Brazilian Jazz. I saw some Brazilian friends there too. As I was listening to the music, memories of Brazil flooded my mind.

Sometimes we just need a day that is full of small blessings of being with people we like to be with, good food, and fun. While I was at the concert, I forgot about chronic illness. It felt good to be carefree for a while.

God cares about our needs to be refreshed. The classic example is Elijah who was exhausted and feeling down. He fell asleep under a tree and God sent an angel twice:

“Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.” He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.”

Today will be a day to relax, read, and listen to worship music.
