My hope is that this post is the start of posts connected in a chain as we encourage each other in showing God’s love. To participate, please mention my blog by linking this post and the blog of the person who tags you in. I am tagging in my little sister Dawn of drawingclosertochrist.com who has already let me know she likes the idea. I love how she shares her faith in her blog. 🙂

1 Corinthians 13 is a passage that is popular to read at weddings because of its theme of love. That is good, but the passage is about serving others in love. In that passage we read:

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,  but do not have love, I gain nothing.”

The longer I live for Jesus and seek to serve him, the more I realize how important love is to God. It was out of love that God sent Jesus as we read in John 3:16:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son…”

In John 15 Jesus teaches that we are his friends if we follow his commands and says of his command:

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.”

The love Jesus is talking about is not romantic love, but rather God’s love. God’s unconditional love. The kind of love that is self sacrificing such as Jesus giving of himself.

To show God’s love as I go through life, I need God’s power to do so. I need to start my day with God in prayer and listening to worship music. I cannot give from an empty cup. I need to be filled and empowered.

Showing God’s love to refugees and immigrant means at times being emotionally drained as I listen to their stories. I need to go to God to be refreshed.

Love is so missing in so many ways in the world today. It is sad for me to see how ugly things can get in our public discourse and the violence in our world. I believe people are starving for the kind of love God offers through us. We are the hands of Jesus on earth.

I would love to hear your thoughts in my comments. I also hope to see this post continue on through other bloggers and to hear from them.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. Thanks big brother for this tag! Showing God’s love is important because it’s how we can lead others to Jesus. He gives us His love through His Holy Spirit so we can receive it for ourselves and then share it with others. It’s sad how unloving the world is, but in Jesus we can keep persevering in showing God’s love ❤️
