For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
My pastor has been doing a series about the titles for the promised Messiah, Jesus, from Isaiah 9. I loved his message on the title- Mighty God.
He pointed out something about the time Jesus fell asleep in the boat while he was with his disciples and a terrible storm came. They woke Jesus up and with a few words of “Quiet! Be Still!” Jesus calmed the storm.

My pastor pointed out the reaction of the disciples in Mark 4 says it all:
“They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
Have you ever seen anyone quiet a terrible storm with 3 words? I haven’t. When the disciples saw it, they were terrified of Jesus and the power he displayed. Jesus is indeed the Mighty God promised in Isaiah 9.
Because Jesus has all power, he can and will keep his promises. A new blogger I follow is Stephanie who has a blog I Am Crowned with Victory at closerwithstephanietemple.wordpress.com. She shared a post I enjoyed- A God Who Does Not Lie: His Promises. It is an excellent post to read about God’s promises.
Christmas is not just about a baby being born. It is about Jesus leaving his throne in heaven to become a human baby, to die for us because of his great love for us and to defeat death for us through his resurrection.
Because Jesus has all power, his promises are solid. The ultimate promise is that we can be with him in heaven for all eternity.
I would like to share a song from Handel’s Young Messiah. It is an album from the 1990s of Christian artists coming together to perform The Messiah by Handel. The song is- For Unto Us A Son Is Given. I hope it blesses you and helps you to remember that Jesus is the Mighty God.
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
