Thankful on Difficult Days

Body slammed is how I explain what a no energy and painful morning feels like. Kind of like chronic illness picked me up and slammed me down with no mercy.

That was my experience yesterday morning and has been several times in the past few years. The kind of fatigue that just sitting up can be exhausting. Living with chronic illness can wear on a person and get a person down, so if I have a bad day, I try to stop to say what I am thankful for. So here are some things I am thankful for.

I am thankful that I can pray and ask for strength. Once I got going, it eased up, but getting going can be the hard part.

I am thankful I have this afternoon and evening free to rest and hopefully do some more writing.

I am thankful that I can blog and have freedom to write about my faith.

I am thankful for the wonderful bloggers I interact with.

I am thankful I will see the moms in my class this morning.

By being thankful, it helps me to not go down the path of despair as it says in Isaiah 61:

” and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair”

Thank you for reading. God Bless

  1. Thank you for sharing this. To specifically be thankful when your whole self is pushing you to lean towards complaining is a wonderful way to be, a very encouraging reminder for us.

  2. Praying for a supernatural divine healing, according to 3 John 2!

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”

  3. Gratitude is definitely a key component to our walk! I can relate, as one who deals with chronic illness as well. Praying a blessed day for you. Thanks for sharing a great reminder here!

  4. Amen sir! I completely understand. I get those bad fatigue days too where Celiac takes its toll and wipes my energy out. Sometimes it completely knocks me out and I sleep for a few hours in the afternoon. This is a very encouraging reminder to keep being thankful and giving the Lord praise. Praying for you sir, God bless!

  5. I pray that you are feeling better today, Matt. It is truely amazing that you can find the time and energy to thank the Lord in spite of your pain. God will honor your faithfulness.

  6. Sounds like you’ve got the right perspective man of God! None of your experiences goes to waste, God uses it all for His glory (Romans 8:28).

It so easy to thank God for the good times in our lives. What’s difficult is thanking Him for the hard times we face. I mean, who finds pleasure in experiencing difficult situations? It goes against our logic to say, “God I thank you for this horrible health diagnosis.” or “Lord, I thank you that I’m unemployed and my finances are so tight I don’t know how I’m going to pay my bills. I’ve been going through a long season of health and financial problems and I’ll be honest and say I’ve done my share of complaining and asking God why. But He is giving me a new perspective. God has a purpose and plan for everything in our lives. My prayer is that I will respond with a Christ-like attitude and others will see God is enough in every situation.

  7. We were both thinking about thankfulness today in our post. It’s an inspiration to see how you keep pressing on in faith regardless of the difficulties.

  8. I haven’t experienced anything like the kind of pain you express here, but I’ve had a difficult few weeks physically, and it can be very hard! Sometimes prayer is really the only thing that lifts your heart. Prayer and gratitude 🙏 What a great example of this you are, Matt!

  9. Oh Big Brother! You truly bless my heart and faith walk tremendously! YOU ARE SUCH A POWERFUL GIFT FROM GOD! ❤️❤️❤️As you press on and worship and thank God in your life, may He always be your EVERYTHING!!! God bless you mightily as always amen!!! 🙏🙏🙏

  10. Your grateful and thankful heart is a genuine testimony to what God will do in the life of one who praises Him. You are an inspiration! I hope that you are feeling much better today!
