“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,  I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

This passage from Matthew 25 gives us a glimpse into the heart of Jesus. It can also be a guiding principle for us during this time of the COVID-19 crisis. What should our focus be when it comes to giving money?

My little sister Beverley shared a post yesterday I suggest reading. She deals with the issue of people claiming God will bless you if you send money to their ministry. The post is Are We Selling Our Brethern For Profit. It is a good post to read anytime but especially at this time.

We should look to give to our local church where we worship together and consider giving to a benevolence fund if our church has one. We should also look out for the needs of those in our local church as we are charged to care for our brothers and sisters in Christ. Do we know someone affected by a layoff due to the crisis?

I do not like to talk about my giving, but realizing that a ministry on my heart, Love Justice, is concerned about the group homes they have for children and young women who were victims of sex trafficking, I made an extra donation yesterday. It wasn’t a big amount but I did what I could. They have group homes in various countries and each country has far less ability to care for the sick than my home country the USA.

Another ministry that is doing wonderful work is Samaritan’s Purse. Samaritan’s Purse set up and is running a field hospital in Northern Italy where the virus has hit hard. Talk about caring for the sick!!!

Let’s be wise and be guided by the heart of Jesus for those who are suffering at this time and guided by the wisdom in Proverbs 31:

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
for the rights of all who are destitute.
Speak up and judge fairly;
defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

    1. Thank you little sister. How are you and your family today?

      1. We’re actually good today! Today is good, everyday is good but sometimes are attitudes try and distort that truth😅 As extroverted as I am I’m actually kind of a homebody so I haven’t minded staying at home with the idea of quarantine in mind..it’s rainy on this end of the state…how about on the east side?
        Hope you’re well!!!!!

  3. I enjoyed Beverley’s post. We do have to be careful and use wisdom in our giving. Many don’t have good intentions. Thanks for sharing.

I’m not sure about “give SO you will be blessed”. Because a many give expecting a return, or a doubled or tripled return.
Not saying God can’t bless or reward but I think such perspective is not a right reason to have.
We give because we ought to…
Regardless if it comes back or not.
We give, because God blessed us to bless others.

    1. Amen little sister!!! 🙂

  5. Excellent advice for this time, Matt. Thank you!

    1. Thank you 🙂 How are you and your family?

      1. We’re doing well, really. All are healthy. My husband is still working as his job is considered essential. Aaron is home from his day group. Sometimes he’s restless and that can create problems but mostly he’s doing fine. He did have a seizure this morning but that’s nothing new. It’s just a whole new world, isn’t it?

      2. Are you feeling better now? Hope so!

  6. Thank you, Matt for expanding on my post and for linking it to yours. I love the verse that you shared because it tells us specifically where we ought to give in order to give to God. It is to the hungry, the sick, the homeless, those who are in prison and those ministries that are laboring to spread the gospel to those who need it and to your local churches and reputable charitable organizations. Thank you once again Matt. God bless you.

    1. I was glad to link your post little sister 🤗

      1. Bless you big brother.

  7. Matt, I appreciate you sharing the wisdom of giving back during these challenging times. God’s peace to you!

    1. Thank you 🙂
Be safe and God Bless 🙂

  8. Samaritan’s Purse is my favorite ministry to donate to other than my local church. SP does much to help those in need around the world. Thank you for reminding us to look for ways to help those in need during this time.

    1. SP does do show the love of Jesus 🙂

  9. Well said big brother 🙏🏽

    1. Thank you little sister 🙂

  10. […] Jesusluvsall’s Blog  is my Christian friend Matt. He’s so funny! He is a wonderful brother in Christ and has been a blessing to me. I love him. […]

  11. Thank you for your excellent advice on a topic many don’t care to talk about. Giving toward a benevolence fund is especially important from my experience. We as a ministry are blessed to have one and have been able to help any number of folks having difficulties in the short-term with finances.
I pray your post inspires folks to give accordingly and properly.
    Blessings,
    Pastor Chuck

    1. Thank you for praying. 🙂

  12. This is a great share bro. Thanks. 🤗
I love your heart of giving. Its important to give really and give, not with a mind of expecting anything in return.
