There are some things I miss at this time of self isolating due to the COVID-19 crisis.

I miss seeing people in the coffee shop and hanging out, telling my jokes to the people who work there.

I miss stopping in my favorite deli at Open Harvest to buy a little food and telling them a joke.

I miss interacting in person with my colleagues in the places where I teach.

I miss going to church on Sunday mornings.

But out of those things, it is not like my absence will mean that much or be a source of concern for anyone. Life goes on.

What I miss the most and what concerns me the most is my students and my friends who came here as refugees and immigrants.

I miss visiting them in their homes and sharing a meal, laughter, helping them with things, and being there for them. They are the ones who have been in touch with me to see how I am doing. They are the ones I am concerned about the most too.

My friendship with my refugee and immigrant friends are what gives me so much joy in life. Spending so much time apart from them has made me realize something. I do not want to retire- EVER.

When this crisis is over, the first thing I wish to do is visit my friends and see how they are doing, sharing coffee or tea with them and listening to their stories. That is the purpose Jesus has given me in life. That is how he has designed me to be. That is what I miss the most.

What do you miss?

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. I miss going out for coffee with my friends, and to the mall ☹️

    1. Out for coffee with friends 🙂

  2. Sorry, I actually hate coffee, but cafes and restaurants in general 😂

  3. I agree with you. I miss the freedom of movement. And being able to actually help others in a physical way, as opposed to the extreme measures now placed on us.
But I DO know that this will pass…. and may it be a constant reminder to me to be more grateful for all these things in the future.
Blessings to you. May you stay safe ❤

    1. Yes it will pass. 🙂
      God Bless 🙂

  4. I miss hugs. I miss hugging my daughter and grandchildren, Miss Phoebe at the grocery store, Mr. Willie who brings in the grocery carts, and the people at church. I miss physical contact of every kind.

  5. I miss climbing, I miss the office and banter.

  6. I miss the children at church and all the random kids popping up in and out of my home. As much as they fatigue me, I miss them.

    1. Children keep life interesting 🙂

  7. I miss my friends, going to church, shopping, and hugs! Even though I give hugs through the screens… still not the same.

    1. True it is not the same, but this time will pass and you will see you friends, go to church, a hug again 🙂

    1. Hopefully this will pass before spring time is over 🙂

      1. Hi Matt : I am continuing to think of you and pray for you. We are isolating here too, in rural Newfoundland, although we are already isolated.
Yes, let us pray for God’s mercy to bring an end to this virus. 🤗

      2. Thank you for praying 🙂

  9. I miss hugs, kisses and laughing with others. I miss eye contact and new conversations with strangers. I miss going out to eat and I miss my job. I’m a dental hygienist and I miss my patients! I miss lots of stuff!

    1. Simple human interaction will be wonderful to experience again 🙂

Matt, I bet people are missing you right now. I know your absence makes difference. How could it not? You are important and you have touch so many lives. You have no idea. ❤

    1. Thank you your kind words little sister.
The simple things in life have more meaning now 🙂

  11. I miss church. But taking that a little further, I miss getting to use my spiritual gifts to serve roles in the church–teaching Sunday School, tag-team preaching with my pastor (we were doing a series for Lent). At least one other outlet, writing on this blog, is still available to me.

    1. Does your church have online service?

  12. I really miss interacting with others too!

    1. The day is coming that you can go out for coffee with your friend again 🙂

      1. I’m really looking forward to that!

  13. I miss not living in fear! I know we are not suppose to feel this way, but I do. So many of us in my immediate family have CI and it is hard not to worry………..

    1. You are human little sister. It is normal to experience fear. When we do, we can go to God in prayer.

      1. Thank you for understanding…….I try to ‘pray without ceasing’ on a daily basis………now even more so.

  14. I really am missing church too, and even going to work. Hang in there big brother! 🤗

    1. Thank you little sister.
How is your mom? How is your daughter?

      1. They are good. My daughter is on lockdown in Spain. You doing ok?

  15. Matt, I miss life’s simple interactions: seeing my Ohio family in the flesh, sharing the peace with others at church, chatting with the help at some of my favorite restaurants, and just mingling with people in general.

    1. Simple interactions have been a common theme in what people miss

  16. Yes, friends are wonderful. ☺ I don’t really miss anything, yet. Our world hasn’t changed too much. We were already isolated. We can’t get groceries online anymore, but that could be a good thing. It forces us out more. Hopefully we won’t get sick, though. I really don’t want Andrew to get sick. But yeah, not being able to order online is going to be a bit of a challenge and inconvenience. I don’t drive, and Andrew isn’t always fit to drive. We can get a ride from family though if we need to.

    1. Glad your family can help you

  17. I wonder if when this pandemic is over if we will be able to return to doing the normal things we use to do. Perhaps we will be walking around wearing masks and afraid to visit feiends and family. What do you think?

    1. I think in time we will return to normal. It will help when they have a vaccine

  18. Thats a good questions; I don’t know what I miss….gotta think 🙂

  19. I miss all form of social interactions. I couldn’t meet with friends and all even though we had it all planned out before COVID happened.

I miss the calm too!. You keep hearing Coro.. this and that. Sighs

    1. I miss social interaction too. The calm we can still have by spending time with God, but it is a daily sometimes hourly need

  20. I miss many things but now I am concentrating on what I have at moment.
