Which Voice Will We Give Power To?

I saw a video on Youtube yesterday that caused me to think about voices that we pay attention to or give power over us.

There are many voices in our lives competing for our attention. It is as if we have a radio tuner and need to select which station or voice.

The voices we give power to are the ones that can rule our lives. But ate the voices ones that bring us down or ones that lift us up?

Jesus talked about his voice when he said in John 10:

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow my voice.”

What is his voice like? When Elijah was in need of God, God’s voice came in a gentle whisper. We read in 1 Kings 19:

“After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.”

God whispers to us. God’s voice is never condemning. We read in Romans 8:

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus”

If a voice is condemning you, it is not from God. God is gentle with his children.

Mary Magdelene was distraught when she went to the empty tomb of Jesus. She had been through the emotional ringer of watching Jesus die on the cross. She was grieving. Her eyes were filled with tears, so she did not recognize Jesus until Jesus said her name. In John 20 we read:

Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”

Jesus said to her, “Mary.”

She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).

Jesus did not condemn, ridicule, or shame Mary while she was distraught. He spoke her name.

So which voice will we listen to and give power to?

Thank you for reading. God Bless

  1. Beautiful post….I try to listen to Gods voice….
But the devil and the world work so hard to get my attention..
    Sometimes I succumb…
But Gods mercy and grace have preserved me…. 🙂

  2. Great post! I just heard that verse from first kings used in a devotion last week and it caught my attention so it’s interesting to see it again so soon, God must be trying to speak to me….And often times I do choose the negative jar (from the video clip)….but I’m getting better!!!!

  3. This post is everything and so much more! Feeling so encouraged to keep on choosing to hear the voice of God over the world. God offers so much more than the world ever will! One can find themselves swaying from this though but Jesus keeps pursuing us and offers His free gift of grace!

  4. Great video! We do tend to hold on to the negative things we hear instead of the positive. This is a great reminder to do the opposite. Thank you! 😊

  5. In these times it is so critical that you know the voice of God. A lot of Christians are listening to the voice of the devil thinking it is the Lord because the devil will tell you what you want to hear. Thank you for this reminder.

  6. May we always hear His voice. I love the reference of Him speaking to Elijah a lot. God gave a perfect description of Himself there. How will a God whose persona is love and everything about Him is love, speak any less to us in love. Even when correcting us, He does in love and never to put us down. 🙂

  7. Oh how beautiful it is when we start to hear (and believe!) his voice!! Nothing is more life changing than realizing the God of the universe is on our side!!

  8. Really powerful post. Video at end ‘BOOM’, its crazy the power of negativity. An old friend once said to me, your a very positive person but what holds you back is that you focus on the 1% negativity. Chance that and everything will change. True words.
