In June 2004, I had the privilege of teaching in a conversational English language camp in Lyon France. I loved my time there and enjoyed some wonderful food.

Each morning I would leave the home where I was staying before the retired couple would wake up. They would leave a box of pastries on the table for me to have one for breakfast.

One morning I looked at the box of croissants and saw the word- Escargot. The croissants had pieces of what I thought were snails, escargot in French, because the pieces were black. I did not want to eat snails for breakfast, I never actually want to eat them any time, so I drank some coffee and had some toast.

The husband came down that morning. He noticed the box of croissants was unopened. He asked me if I wanted one. I told him I didn’t want snails for breakfast. He smiled and said, “The spots are chocolate. The croissants are shaped like a snail.”

Learning that the black spots were chocolate, not snails, I eagerly ate two of them. I mean HELLO CHOCOLATE.

Deciding things based on appearances or lack of information can lead to mistakes like my mistake with the croissants.

Fortunately God does not make decisions the way we do. When God looks at us, he does not decide based on outward appearance or current abilities. God bases his decisions on what he can do through us as he empowers us , guides us, and transforms our lives.

God can take someone who others overlook, dismiss, or look down on and transform that person into a whole new person he works through to do wonderful things.

I hope to be more like God and not look at outward appearances. But I still don’t want to eat snails.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

    A beautiful place, Lyon…

    1. Yes it is. Have you been there?

      1. Hi Matt !
I have not been to Lyon, but I lived for a while in Strasbourg, in the East of France.
Like you, I enjoy different cultures. 🤗

      2. Yes, I love the lifestyle and the food. Do you speak French ?
Generally polyglots( those who speak several languages) are auditory learners, who also love music. I am an auditory learner, and love languages, singing, and playing my guitar. 🤗

How are you and your family?

  10. I want to be more like God, too, but I’d probably try eating a snail. Not fresh from the garden though. 😕

    1. Not fresh from the garden? Maybe you could try fresh from the garden with lemon 😂

      1. Haha. Eww. I draw the line on food that wriggles. It might be gollums cup of tea, but I don’t think lemon will help. ☺

  11. Very funny! And a great tie in. 😊
