The other day before I woke up, I dreamed that I had already awakened. In the dream I was already drinking coffee and logging into YouTube to listen to music videos. That is my normal routine each morning, get out of bed, pour a cup of coffee, listen to worship videos on YouTube while I TRY to wake up for time with God. It was very vivid and real.
I have never been known to be alert when I wake up, so when what happened next occurred, it is hopefully understandable.
I woke up in reality. When my eyes opened, I saw my hand laying on the bed. I wondered who was in my apartment. I thought I had already awakened. As I got out of bed to grab something to defend myself, I realized that I had dreamed that I was awake. I realized I had seen my own hand.
I had a good laugh about it and went to get a cup of coffee and sit down to listen to worship music.
This life is our current reality, but there is a reality far greater and eternal. Paul wrote that we see in a mirror dimly in 1st Corinthians 13. We know only partially now. But when Jesus returns, or takes us home to be with him, we will know in full.
For now we are groggy about the full realities of Jesus, heaven, and eternity, but we will know fully when that day comes.
Just so you know, I wrote this last night and scheduled it to post this morning. It might be hard to believe but I am too groggy in the morning to write. 🙂
