What Is WordPress Up To Now?

WordPress sent me a message about something new they plan to do called Native Sponsored Posts. This was the message: “WordPress.com has started testing Native Sponsored Posts. This is an extension of our advertising program and will have the same controls and restrictions as our standard ad placements. You may see these Sponsored Posts running on your sites…

WordPress sent me a message about something new they plan to do called Native Sponsored Posts. This was the message:

“WordPress.com has started testing Native Sponsored Posts. This is an extension of our advertising program and will have the same controls and restrictions as our standard ad placements. You may see these Sponsored Posts running on your sites as we expand testing. They may be promoting WordPress.com content, marketing initiatives, or brands. Longer term, we hope to offer Sponsored Posts to our users as a way to help drive traffic and promote content discovery. For any questions or issues, see our Native Sponsored Posts FAQ.“

Long story short unless someone has a paid plan, WordPress plans to impose these ‘Native Posts’ which may even run counter to the bloggers message, values etc.

It is one thing to have ads but sponsored posts and imposing posts by other bloggers? I am not a fan of this idea at all.

    I wouldn’t like that. I have a paid plan. I don’t want ads or any posts like that popping up on my blog. The paid plan is affordable. I recommend doing that. God bless!

    I’ll never forget the first time I saw ads at the bottom of my blog and thought, “I don’t want that product associated with my blog,” so I reluctantly upgraded to a personal account. I feel the same way about sponsored posts. I did not receive an email, so thank you for bringing this to our attention.

    I agree, I don’t want ‘sponsored posts’ on my blog. I went to a paid plan a few months ago, when a blogger friend sent me a screen shot of an ad that was appearing on my blog — NOT something I wanted my blog to be associated with.

    Thanks for the heads up. I’ll be watching to see how it shakes out. In my 7th grade civics book, there was a chapter on advertising. I’ll never forget this: “If you can’t make a product better, make it harder to get into.” Or more complicated.

    Very annoyed to read about this. I was already upset with WordPress when they began sharing horrendous ads in the emails people receive when someone publishes a post. Sadly it’s all too often a facet of capitalism that people will act with such little love that they will happily sacrifice our hard work if it will make them a bit more money. It really upsets me. Thanks for your post, brother.

    Yeah. Welcome to the world of corporate blogging. They make money. We don’t. I think it’s good they make money in a manipulative fashion. They will have much more to answer for then you and I.

    Definitely not a fan. Ads are everywhere these days, yuck! I do have a paid account and upgraded to avoid the ads. I think it’s only around $36/year for a Personal Plan, worth it to avoid the ads I think!

    I did take an upgrade a couple of months ago…
    I don’t prefer it….hut it happens everywhere so it doesn’tannoy or surprise me at all. Maybe I’m just too used to it and I’m just complacent…I don’t try to fight with the system anymore….I just walk away if it absolutely goes berserk….I know ….not a very good policy….but 🙃🙃🙃🙃
