Storms in Life

Do you like thunderstorms? I have to admit I do. I like to watch the lightning and hear the thunder. Thunderstorms rolled through my state last night bringing cooler weather for the weekend. It was 97 F, 37 C, yesterday and will be 76 F, 24 C, today. Where I live, thunderstorms often bring change in our weather.

It caused me to think about how what we consider storms in life and how they can bring change in our lives. Many times we do not see the change after the storm, but God does. Our part is to trust and seek God during the storms of life.

Elijah heard from God after three manifestations of power, a strong wind, an earthquake, and fire. Each of those three it says God was not in them. When God spoke to Elijah in 1 Kings 19 we find:

and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

God spoke to Elijah in a still small voice. When we seek God during the storms in life, we need to quiet ourselves so we can hear his still small voice It can help to step back, take time to be alone, and spend time with God in prayer.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. I am not fond of thunderstorms. But I do agree that in life’s storms we need to take a step back and quiet ourselves so we can hear God. But that is often the challenge isn’t it, because in the midst of the storm like when we someone is in danger of drowning they flail their arms and legs more which is not the best.

  2. I also live in an area of the country that has frequent severe thunderstorms—especially in the spring. And it’s only after the storm passes, and all is calm, that we can assess the changes.
Thanks for yet another great post, Matt. Blessings!

      1. Yeah, sleep somehow is more satisfying when it’s raining. So is singing cos I have a terrible singing voice. And crying because if you cried under rain, nobody would see you cry and neither would you want to wash your face.

  3. I actually just read 1 kings 19 yesterday!! I love storms also but not the storms of life, the comforting part is that God is still in control regardless.

      1. Doing well considering the current lockdown doesn’t help much.
So so glad we can keep our eyes on Jesus through it all.

  4. I love thunderstorms and rain and pretty much all weather like that. It’s so relaxing although maybe too relaxing because I always end up sleeping all day lol 😂
