Power Naps

Cloudy rainy days are something I love. Yesterday it rained off and on through the day but stayed cloudy most of the day. I managed to go for a short walk and then it was time to enjoy one of my favorite things, a nap. It wasn’t a quick nap. It was a power nap of four hours.

Interestingly I woke up with an idea of what do to about a few issues. That tends to happen at time after my power naps. Sometimes the ideas come to me during a short walk, but yesterday it was as I napped.

Physical rest is important for us and is something God has built into us to need. Elijah needed a nap one time. We read about it in 1 Kings 19

:Then as he lay and slept under a broom tree, suddenly an angel touched him, and said to him, β€œArise and eat.”  Then he looked, and there by his head was a cake baked on coals, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank, and lay down again. And the angel of the Lord came back the second time, and touched him, and said, β€œArise and eat, because the journey is too great for you. So he arose, and ate and drank; and he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights as far as Horeb, the mountain of God.

We might note that after the first time Elijah ate and drank he went back to sleep. It was after the second time he ate and drank that he continued on his journey. The angel did not talk about the journey the first time he gave Elijah food and water. We can conclude that the angel understood that Elijah needed physical rest. It was after the second time the angel gave Elijah food and water that the angel talked about the journey.

That must have been some food the angel gave Elijah because Elijah traveled forty days on that food. I can guarantee nothing I cook would do that. πŸ™‚

Do you enjoy naps?

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. Yes, I enjoy naps. And the older I get, the more important they’ve become.

I also find it easier to process life decisions after a nap.

Sometimes I like to combine prayers and naps. It works like this: I literally pray myself to sleep. I start with the Lord’s Prayer and then move on to the cares of the day. Somewhere in there is where I fall πŸ’€ asleep 😴. I call this β€œprayer napping.”

    God Bless!

    1. My grandma has the prayer nap too. We join in prayers with her and once she falls asleep we finish with the grace and let her continue sleeping. so it works! not for me though.

  2. We share that. I also love naps. I don’t like people interfering with my naps. After a serious nap, I wake up with ideas about a topic God wants me research on or God gives me ideas on a topic I had purposed to work on.

    There is power in naps.

PS:-The Angel need to start feeding me because I am tired of cooking everyday. LOL

  3. I have sermon naps.
If ever I need a nap I listen to a sermon with my eyes closed. Works all the time! ( and not because is boring …jπŸ€—

  4. Just read 1 kings 19 yesterday and I took a two hour nap yesterday as well as a three hour nap today so this is all fresh in my mind! I don’t like napping so long BUT good can come from the body resting so I’ll embrace it!!
