This afternoon was memory lane as we celebrated the life of the mom of my best friend as a child. During the funeral as my friend Todd shared memories, it brought back memories for me. Best of all my friend Todd and his mom whose life we celebrated both know Jesus.
One of the stories shared was that in her final days on earth one of her visitors told her, “Jesus loves you,” and she smiled ear to ear.
Whenever I go to the funeral of someone who knows Jesus, I think of Psalm 116
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants
That is not a morbid or sadistic thought at all. Jesus does not relish seeing us suffer. What makes the death of his faithful servants precious to him is that our deaths are the time we come home to our eternal home with him.
Jesus knows heaven is far better for us than this life. He also wants us with him. In John 17 Jesus said:
Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.
It was a good afternoon spent reminiscing with friends from long ago and remembering a woman from my childhood.
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
Matt, I appreciate your encouragement as I went back to read Psalm 116 again. This blessed collection of verses go with your post.
The Psalms have so much to encourage us
