These recent weeks have been quite the thing with teaching, COVID protocols, doctors and already hitting my deductible for the year. I was listening to some music Monday and listened to one song by Sara Bareilles She Used to Be mine that has a line, “she is messy but she’s kind.”
I muttered a prayer to Jesus of, “I am messy but hope I am kind.”

I love how Jesus answers prayers in unique ways that get our attention. If anything gets my attention, it is my refugee and immigrants friends especially former students.
That evening as I sat outside my classroom, a young Yazidi man, who was my student a few years ago, came up to me and asked me if I remembered him. I told him yes and asked how he is doing. He shared with me that he is working on his GED now and hopes to become a dental assistant.
The next day as I was waiting for my students for my afternoon class, which meets in a church basement across from the school, a former student from Afghanistan came in looking for the room to help her parents with translating. She asked if I remember her and I told her yes,. Then I asked how she was doing and how her children are.
From those two interactions, Jesus showed me there are people who think I am kind. They were subtle reminders, moments of Jesus showing me not telling me.
God is always at work, always speaking to us in many ways if we will pay attention.
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
They remembered you, Matt. And you remembered them. What a quid pro quo! Like you said, Jesus showed you that nothing you are doing has been wasted. Blessings!
Thank you David. How are things in your neck of the woods?
Things are going pretty well down here in the southern Midwest. Thanks for asking. The principal of our school told the teachers yesterday that she plans to retire at the end of this school year. 37 years if leadership. She will be missed.
37 years of dedication
This was very encouraging to read and such a beautiful way God reminded you of the value in what you are doing
Thank you Manu. God definitely knows how to communicate with us
That was a God-Wink! Kindness is so important because it let’s people know that we value them, which we should, because God created them!
Yes everyone we meet is created in God’s image 🙂
God is so good to give you that needed encouragement. Your kindness goes far deeper than you will ever know this side of heaven.
God is good!!!
Thank you for the reminder
For what it’s worth, I only remember the teachers I loved. I’m sure this is the case for them. ❤️
Thank you for your kind words little sister 🙂
I agree, Jesus is always speaking, we just have to listen.
Amen and Hallelujah ❤
Jesus is so faithful. Thank you for sharing.
