Story Time- Matt’s Peanut Chili

It was a Super Bowl Sunday years ago and I had invited a few friends to watch it with me. I bought chips. sodas, popcorn, and told them I would make chili- a soup with ground beef and beans. My friends arrived and we were all set for some fun watching American football.

It came time to eat the chili. One of my friends was the first to try it and he had a look of dismay in his eyes. He asked me, “are these peanuts?” I asked why. He told me they were hard and crunchy. So I tried some and found out what he was talking about. The bean were not soft.

Realizing the chili was a no go I called for delivery pizzas. My friends asked me if I soaked the beans in water. I told them I had not and asked if I was supposed to. The chili was called Matt’s peanut chili.

In my defense the beans did not tell me they needed to be soaked in water. How was I to know? šŸ™‚

It may surprise you to know that I am not known as a great cook. lol

People know us by what they see us do, how we treat them, and how we make them feel.

Jesus said in John 15:

ā€œA new command I give you:Ā LoveĀ oneĀ another. As I haveĀ loved you, so you mustĀ loveĀ oneĀ another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if youĀ loveĀ oneĀ another.ā€

How can people tell if we belong to Jesus? By the way we treat them and each other.

Thank you for reading. God Bless

  1. One of my colleagues years ago forgot tonsil kidney beans and it was so hard and your story reminded me of that šŸ˜. I am sure everyone would have been fine once the pizza was delivered.

  2. I couldnā€™t resist reading. I had to know what you had done! I knew it would make me smile. It did. It made me chuckle too. Peanut Chilli…. never had that before. Buy canned beans! šŸ˜ƒ Much quicker! You can do it. Give it another go… just go easy on the Chilli powder or they’ll be calling it Matt’s Firemouth Chilli. šŸ˜…

  3. I am so glad that your friends love you and forgave you for the peanut chili. Next time put all the ingredients in your crockpot and you won’t have peanut chillies. šŸ™‚

  4. Matt!!! In all of our cooking discussions youā€™ve never brought this one up!!! This is hilarious!
Go for the canned beans next time like Tina said! ā€¦or maybe even just let Hormel (canned chili) do all the ingredient-combining, then you just have to warm it up!

That thought just went into my journal, brother! I read before that we donā€™t have to be perfect in our dealings with others, they just need to see and know that we care. Love covers a multitude of wrongs.

  6. Ah, yes, I have had these moments, though mine has usually been crunchy rice. šŸ˜ These days, it’s shortcut city on a lot of meals so if I can get it from a can or a box, I am good. Baking, on the other hand, I still prefer from scratch ( as long as I don’t omit essentials like flour I am still doing fairly well with it šŸ˜Š)
