I listened to this song this morning-Beautiful Jesus performed by Chidima. It is a beautiful song and it caused me to think about something.

In Isaiah 53:2-3, Jesus is prophesized about as:

He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
    nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
 He was despised and rejected by mankind,
    a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces
    he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.

Have you ever stopped to think about that description? He had not beauty to attract us to him/nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. How that runs counter to what we value in our world.

Jesus is our creator. He could have come to us born as the most handsome man to have ever lived and yet he chose to come and live a lowly life. As Philippians 2 says, he emptied himself taking the nature of a servant. But what he did for us, his character, his love, his mercy, his sacrifice for us, gives him the name above all names as Philippians 2:

Who, being in very nature God,
    did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
    by taking the very nature of a servant,
    being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
    he humbled himself
    by becoming obedient to death—
        even death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
    and gave him the name that is above every name,

that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
    in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
    to the glory of God the Father.

One day we will all see Jesus in all of his glory. That day is unavoidable. Nothing will stop that day. The day that we can see our Savior in the full splendor of his beautiful radiant glory. He came to us as a humble servant purposefully not looking like much, but who he is and what he did for us words are not adequate to describe.
