The sidewalks and steps were a bit icy yesterday after my afternoon class. As we walked out to our cars, my friend Alex from Ukraine was walking with me talking about his trip to South Dakota. As we walked down the steps, I slipped only a little on the icy steps. Alex grabbed my arm and held it as we walked. He was making sure his teacher did not fall on the ice. He told his son to carry my laptop bag for me too.

It was a bit humbling and almost embarrassing to have someone hold onto my arm to make sure I didn’t fall on the ice. I have walked on icy sidewalks many times in my life. But the thought occurred to me that Alex is my brother in Christ. I also realize that in his eyes I am older, and so in his culture out of respect, he made sure I was okay.
As I thought about it afterwards, I thought about how that brief moment reflects how Jesus is with us, with me. So many times in my life Jesus has held me up when I could have fallen down. So many times he has made sure I was okay. I often think of John 10:27-30:
“ My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”
Nothing, No One, can take us out of the hand of Jesus. He grabs on to us and never lets go. We are eternally safe in his hands.
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
