Sunday morning during worship, I heard someone singing loudly and way off key. The person could not follow the melody at all but was loving Jesus by singing to him with all she had in her voice. While she was singing, I smiled. It was a beautiful thing to behold.

She is part of my church’s Masterpiece Class, which is a class for adults with special needs. She loves Jesus and was showing him her love.

We have some musically gifted people in my church who help with leading worship. Their voices are beautiful as they harmonize. They share leading various songs depending on what kind of voice fits best.

The thought struck me that in the eyes of Jesus, the young woman from the special needs class sang as beautifully as the worship team because she was singing to him from her heart. For Jesus, it does not matter if we sing off key. He cares about our heart attitude when we worship as Jesus said in John 4:24:

“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

I hope I am blessed to sit near her again and be blessed by her beautiful off key singing from her heart to Jesus who she loves.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. I love that your church has a ministry for adults with special needs 🙂

    1. It is a wonderful ministry

  2. Awe that’s sweet. I smiled while reading this because I love worshiping the Lord through song but I’m sure those around have probably noticed my unsteady tune, I don’t always stay on key 😂but the intention is there.
Paige on the other hand sings beautifully!! She told me last night she thinks she’s going to enter our summers annual Coyote Country showdown contest through a local radio station! I’m excited for her if she sticks to the idea, hoping nerves don’t get in the way!😉

    1. Jesus loves when you sing to him 🙂
Awesome about Paige, Please tell her hi for me

  3. Agreed. Two of the best sounds in church are loud singers (even if they’re off key) and babies (even if they’re crying.)

This post also reminded me of something I read recently. It was a court case against a man named William Linkhaw by his church because he sang so loud and “bad” during the service. Thankfully he appealed it and it was overturned. I don’t know what he sounded like but I know the great Interpreter made it most heavenly sounding!

    1. Amen- we worship in spirit and truth and fortunately for me quality of voice is not an issue with Jesus 🙂

  4. Beautiful reminder that God looks at the heart. Her singing is pure worship to the Lord.

    1. Fortunately for me it is true 😊

  5. You were listening with the ears of Jesus, Matt. We should all do the same.

  6. There is nothing like one singing with their whole heart to the Lord!
