It may be hard to believe but I actually entertained the idea of quitting going to coffee shops. The thought occurred to me that I could drink coffee at home and be more productive while saving money But that idea was quickly dispelled in less than 24 hours.

Friday evening my friend Alexey from Ukraine messaged me asking to meet at the coffee shop with his friend who could translate so we could talk about future ministry. We sat there until midnight talking.

Yesterday while I was at the coffee shop, I saw my friend Diego from Brazil, which allowed me to find out the plans for him and his wife and baby boy to return to Brazil. I also met a group of young people from Nigeria. Then I met four young women from Ukraine, one grew up here and the other three are new refugees. It gave me the opportunity to share with them about how Jesus can understand the trauma they experienced and that they can go to Jesus in prayer for help and healing.

Friday evening and yesterday were reminders for me that the coffee shop is a place where I meet people whether preplanned or spontaneous and a place where I have divine appointments. So no I won’t be quitting coffee shops anytime soon.

Today after church and lunch with friends, I will return to the coffee shop prepared to do some writing and also ready for whatever Jesus has planned for me there.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. I used to frequent coffee shops a lot, until I bought a flask. I now drink coffee outside at picnic benches. But I like your reasoning. Meeting friends is simply the best 😀

  2. It’s wonderful how God uses your coffee shop office to minister to others.
Here’s to a blessed and fruitful Sunday.

    1. It has been a fruitful Sunday. How is yours?

  3. Matt, your coffee shop is an extension of your ministry and living room. You have met so many new and old friends there. God supplies all your needs according to his riches in glory. Overflowing blessings to you through Jesus!

      1. Amen! I had a print given to me by a very special pastor in my life. He always had his guitar with him and sang everywhere! Guess what? He taught ESL students, pastored, he and his wife ran an after-school program for us…his name is “Happy Hopper”. Well, Happy gave me the print of Jesus laughing. He told me to always think of Jesus that way. Someone in my life desperately needed that. To replace it, I was given one of the lady who touched the hem of Jesus’s garment (it hangs in a place I see often). But Jesus laughing…it just makes me smile and feel so comforted (especially since my humor can be quite silly; and dark—and down right ridiculous! Have a blessed Monday, brother. May you stay blessed and well. I have a busy week—and your book is by my side!

      2. Jesus is laughing. I like that.
Jesus is smiling at you too little sister. The smile of someone who loves you deeply. 🙂
Praying for you little sister. I hope my book can be a source of encouragement for you.

      3. Yes! Yes! Your book IS!! I WILL find time to leave a review too! You’d think I have all the time in the world…tee hee. Each morning, by 7am, I send a text to my Mom and sister (I have since my diagnosis). My twin “sees” me each morning by 5:30 in the Bible App so she does not “worry”. I best let me family know I’m HERE! Praise God for another day! Have a blessed one, BB!
