Last night I had a dream about writing a story time blog post for a little fun. The only problem is that I don’t remember what the post was about. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with a writing idea, but that did not happen this time, so I guess the topic was not that important. 🙂

About dreams though. Some people put a lot of stock in them and some don’t. Count me among the in between crowd in that regards. I believe God can speak to use in dreams, but we should be careful to test it and make sure.

A wonderful example of God working through dreams is Jesus appearing to many in the Middle East in their dreams to draw them to himself. Knowing this, it is a prayer of mine for friends from the Middle East that Jesus will appear to them in their dreams.

The Angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph, Mary’s husband and Jesus’s earthly step father, in dreams. The first time was to reassure Joseph that the baby she was pregnant with was indeed from God and the second time was to tell Joseph to take Mary and baby Jesus and flee to Egypt. I have wondered if the Angel of the Lord spoke to Joseph in his dreams because it was the only time he could get his attention. 🙂

If my dreams seem to be about living for Jesus or serving Jesus, I spend time in prayer when I am awake to seek his will. If they are indeed about Jesus, confirmation will be given. If they are not, no confirmation. That has been my approach.

Also if a dream is from God, they will stand up to testing. They would need to pass the scripture test meaning they do not go against what the bible teaches. We should strive to be like the people of Berea of whom Acts 17:11 says


Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

So this post was the result of me not remembering the dream I had for a story time post, but I hope you enjoyed it nonetheless. 🙂

    Great post , interestingly I was thinking about this topic – yes true God mostly spoken by dreams in the Middle East , and it was so effective and immediate change in their life.

    I’m with you. If it’s not in the Bible, I’m not a fan. But as you said, there were several examples of dreamers in the Bible. I also agree—Seeking confirmation is the best way to see if a dream is from God. Maybe that post idea will come to you soon. 🙂

    God often likes to get our attention, while we are sleeping, so he can talk with us.
    Job 33:15-18 NLT says: He speaks in dreams, in visions of the night,
    when deep sleep falls on people
    as they lie in their beds.
    He whispers in their ears
    and terrifies them with warnings.
    He makes them turn from doing wrong;
    he keeps them from pride.
    He protects them from the grave,
    from crossing over the river of death.

    Yes. Amen to the Lord revealing Himself to more people in direct dreams! I welcome Him speaking to me in dreams too.
    I do find them fascinating nonetheless – as a jumbled interpretation of our processing of life’s input. For a while I kept a dream diary and often write them down to peruse in prayer anyway.
