Saturday afternoon my friend Oleksii’s daughter had her wedding. It was a small private ceremony with only the two families, a few friends, and myself in attendance. Ester, the bride, was beautiful in her bridal gown. A Ukrainian pastor friend of the family flew in from Atlanta Georgia to do the ceremony.

Even though it was a smaller ceremony, it reminded me of the time that I was a wedding coordinator for a Ukrainian wedding held at my church because the groom is the grandson of the parents of the bride who was married in that wedding.
After the wedding, we had dinner at a nice restaurant. I explained to the families and friends a custom after receptions in America of clicking on glasses with a spoon or fork so the newly married couple would have to kiss. The grandfather of the groom liked the idea and continued to click his glass off and on during the dinner. His wife would take the spoon or fork he was using, but he would get another one and do it again.
A custom at a wedding when Jesus was on earth was to have a wedding feast. At the feast the best wine would be served first and then the cheaper wine served after that. When Jesus turned water into wine, it was better than the best wine that was served already causing the master of the banquet to say in John 2:10:
“Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
The result of this first miracle Jesus performed? John 2:11:
What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
Jesus performed his miracles for a purpose, so people would come to faith in him.
By the way, I am available to coordinate weddings. I have unique ideas. 🙂
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
