Yesterday it was my privilege to go to Norfolk Nebraska with my Ukrainian friends Alekseyi and Ruslana, We were part of a group that went there to provide a special Christmas service due to January 6th being the day that Ukraine celebrated Christmas until this year.
I should probably explain that I am one of many people who have lived all our lives in either Lincoln or Omaha the two largest cities in Nebraska. I am also one of those who only knows how to get to places close to the interstate. To go to Norfolk, one has to drive on smaller highways.

Alekeseyi was driving and using GPS but the GPS was giving him directions in Ukrainian, so I had no idea what it was saying. At one point it directed him to turn onto a dirt road. I was sure there had been a mistake. As we were driving down the dirt road, for ten miles, thoughts raced through my mind. Thoughts of if we get lost, I won’t be any help because this is not close to the interstate. Thoughts like what if we end up stuck somewhere like in the horror movies.
At this point, Alicia of forhispurpose.blog is probably laughing at me because she lives off of a dirt road close to a small town in Nebraska.
So when we got back to a paved highway with those green signs telling how far certain towns or small cities are, I felt a sense of relief kind of like, “okay we are heading back to civilization.”
The experience left me thinking about the final journey we all will face one day which is when we die. We do not need to worry about how we will go to heaven because Jesus is the way. He said it in John 14:6
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
He is also the way to follow in this life as he guides us. He knows where our life’s journeys are heading and he is with us every step of the way.
We made it to our destination and had a wonderful time sharing with our Ukrainian friends in Norfolk. We plan to return, but perhaps next time we will use GPS on my phone and I will take care of getting there. 🙂
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
