Last Saturday it was my privilege to go to Norfolk Nebraska with my Ukrainian friends to provide a special Christmas worship service for Ukrainian refugees living there. It was a wonderful evening of worship and friendship over pizza afterwards.

On the way back to Lincoln, the 18 year old daughter of Alekseyi realized something that put a damper on her evening. It made her quite sad. She left her water bottle behind at the church there. It is one of those metal ones with a brand name on it.

The reason it made her so sad is the sentimental value the water bottle has for her. It was a gift for her from her ELL, English Language Learners, teacher in her high school after she completed ELL. So I called our main contact person at the church in Norfolk to ask him to look for it. Yesterday he emailed me to tell me they found it. They will send it in the mail to me to give to Susana. I messaged Alekseyi to let him know.

It brings to mind Luke 15:8-10 as Jesus shares about the woman who lost a coin.

“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?  And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

When we lose something of value to us whether it is worth money or not, it is the value it has for us that matters much like Susana and her water bottle. The water bottle is not worth a lot of money, but to her it has great value because of what is represents.

Jesus sharing about the woman losing the coin shows how much value we have in God’s eyes. Each time a person comes to Jesus asking him to be their Savior, heaven rejoices.

If we ever feel like we are not valuable, worth much in life, we need to remember how far God went to make it so we could be forgiven and have relationship with him. Romans 5:8 says:

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Dear reader, you are precious to God.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. Thanks so much for this reminder! It’s strange how I can go for long periods of time remembering this and then suddenly, I forget. Thanks for sharing this.

    1. I need reminders too. I think we all do.
Did you get some snow there?

      1. Just enough to cover the deck and other smooth surfaces. It’s more the temperature with wind chill that’s the issue. It was -4°F with a wind chill of -18°F earlier this morning and has only warmed up to -3 with a wind chill of -12.
        How about where you live?

      2. -14 with a wind chill of -35 here so you are in the warm climate 🙂
