So it begins. What I call the crazy season. It is an election year in the USA. I was sitting peacefully in my coffee shop when an old acquaintance stopped at my table to say hi. Years ago, we had both taught English Second Language. I still do, but she stopped due to health reasons.

Anyway, within a few minutes she started talking about politics. I knew we would have differing views and did not want to waste time. I tried to politely let her know I just wanted a relaxing time after a week of teaching. She pressed the issue some more. I stopped her telling her it was good to see her but I was busy with something. She left. Arguing over such matters is of no interest to me.
1st Corinthians 2:2 comes to mind in such situations:
For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified
Colossians 4:6 does as well
Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
It has been my observation that those who seek to debate politics are only interested in their agenda and not in truly discussing the issues and listening to each other. My calling is not to debate. My calling is to reflect Jesus.
For those who do not know Jesus, who do not have faith, government is what their hope is in. That is a frightening place to be. Placing our faith in fallen human beings can be concerning.
My desire is to continue to avoid the debate society, have my speech be seasoned with grace, and focus on sharing Jesus.
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
