We are here already at the last day of 2024. Though I admit to being cynical about Happy New Year, here I am writing about it. Why cynical? Because nothing changes just because we flip the calendar to a different year. The medical bills I owe today, I will still owe on January 2nd. The problems come with us into the new year.

But still I look to the coming year with a sense of wonder as in wondering what opportunities Jesus will bring my way. Who will I meet to share the love of Jesus with? Who will I meet to be a blessing to or to be blessed by? What will Jesus have me doing in the coming year? As the great philosopher Bilbo Baggins said in Lord of the Rings:

“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door. You step into the Road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off too.”

Jesus is my guide for the adventure of living for him and one never knows where Jesus will take a person and what adventures await.

The biggest thing I wonder is if 2025 will be the year Jesus returns.
