This is something that I have been struggling with these days. With all the controversy in the news about immigrants these days, I am mindful of what the Bible says about attitude towards those who are from other countries. My post is not about policy one way or the other. It is not meant as political commentary at all. It is about my attitude towards those who are from other countries, other cultures.

Leviticus 19:33-34  says, “‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.”

God’s word tells me to show them love and not mistreat them. If I show them love, it opens the door for me to be able to share Jesus with them.

Even today, I had lunch with one of my friends from El Salvador. He is here legally. We wanted to go to our usual Sunday lunch spot an El Salvadoran restaurant only to discover it is closed. I am not sure why. Hopefully it will be open again. At least in the past I shared with the people who work there that Jesus loves them.

This afternoon, I am with my Ukrainian friends. They are nervous about whether their Temporary Protected Status could be ended. They have nothing to return to in Ukraine. I can only offer them my friendship and understanding.

This is going to be my experience for the long haul. My desire to to reflect Christ’s love to my immigrant friends.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

    1. Shine his light is our calling

  3. I think the Bible summed it up perfectly. Thank you for sharing that.

    1. Glad to share it my fellow Jedi.

  4. What Barb said. ❤️
If we love God, we will love people, because God is love.

  5. Can’t go wrong in sharing the love of God with others.

  6. Indeed, we ought to treat foreigners with respect because we all will at some point be a foreigner in a country, even if we are only visiting as tourists. Thanks for this powerful reminder.

    1. I have been blessed to travel to other countries and experienced being helped by those who lived there

  7. Praying for all those displaced and seeking new lives in safety. Praying for your church community too. You have shown them the love of Christ.

    1. Thank you for praying!!!

  8. Wasn’t the savior an immigrant? So were the apostles, to a man. Sometimes I think the Savior, should he elect to return, will return as a ‘Traveler’, Romani or otherwise. Then he will see the true measure of our hearts. It won’t be pretty.

    1. Jesus was an immigrant to Egypt in his early childhood and yes the apostles went to other countries. But when Jesus returns, it will be to reign over the world and there will be no doubt that he is Lord of all.

      1. Maybe. But the first time he came…the Wise Men had signs in the heavens, the angels sang, the climate changed, and still we managed to scourge him, convict him, and crucify him. His cousin was beheaded, and most of his apostles died grisly deaths. I’m not convinced we will be any more welcoming the second time around. As he stated ‘And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.’ Every time we send an immigrant packing, or deny a homeless person, we are pretty much doing it to him too. In his own words!
