This is something that I have been struggling with these days. With all the controversy in the news about immigrants these days, I am mindful of what the Bible says about attitude towards those who are from other countries. My post is not about policy one way or the other. It is not meant as political commentary at all. It is about my attitude towards those who are from other countries, other cultures.

Leviticus 19:33-34 says, “‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.”
God’s word tells me to show them love and not mistreat them. If I show them love, it opens the door for me to be able to share Jesus with them.
Even today, I had lunch with one of my friends from El Salvador. He is here legally. We wanted to go to our usual Sunday lunch spot an El Salvadoran restaurant only to discover it is closed. I am not sure why. Hopefully it will be open again. At least in the past I shared with the people who work there that Jesus loves them.
This afternoon, I am with my Ukrainian friends. They are nervous about whether their Temporary Protected Status could be ended. They have nothing to return to in Ukraine. I can only offer them my friendship and understanding.
This is going to be my experience for the long haul. My desire to to reflect Christ’s love to my immigrant friends.
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
