The first garden, Eden, was a place of innocence, ideal setting, and beauty. Adam and Eve walked about enjoying it and the presence of God. As beautiful as gardens are that we enjoy, they pale in comparison to the beauty of Eden. Yet in such ideal surroundings, the horrific happened. Adam and Eve sinned, disobeyed God. Sin and shame entered their lives resulting in death-separation from God and physical death eventually. They were expelled from the garden and since then humanity has lived in sin and shame and under the specter of death.

Another garden is the scene of hope for all humanity. Gethsemane was the garden where Jesus prayed the night he was arrested. Gethsemane would not have compared in beauty to Eden. But in Gethsemane, hope of salvation was about to enter the world. In Gethsemane, Jesus prayed asking for the cup of suffering to be removed but also saying to The Father, not my will but your will be done. Because of Jesus yielding to the plan for him to suffer and be crucified, die for our sins, we can be restored to relationship, reconciled with God. Because of Jesus, we can be forgiven and granted eternal life.
Because of Jesus, we have a choice. We can choose to receive Jesus as our Savior. We do not have to live under the condemnation of sin and death. Think about it all next time you stroll through a garden.
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
