One of the young women who translates for me at New Breath is also a nurse in the ER in a local hospital. This past Sunday I was asked to share a message, but my knee, not the one already operated on, was so painful that it meant preaching while sitting on a stool. Julia my translator made an ice pack for me to ice my knee before I preached.
When worship service finished, I started off for the fellowship area. I was using my walker due to my knee pain. I went to back up through a door and Julia quickly came over to open the door for me telling me backing up is not wise.
During fellowship time, Julia and Jessica talked with me. Jessica is the other young woman who translates for me. They talked with me about home health care expressing concern.
Living with autoimmune problems for over thirty years is like dying a death of a thousand cuts. It slowly eats away at a person. But as long as I can speak, I can teach, I can preach, and share Jesus.
Thankfully other cultures do a better job of respecting older people compared to Americans. My Ukrainian friends do not see my physical limitations as a reason to not allow me to preach the gospel. In fact, they encourage me to do so.
The injection in my knee on Tuesday seems to be working. The pain has lessened. So though I will not need home health care, I am grateful that those I seek to serve and bless also want to be a blessing for me.
