When the doctor’s office calls after having several tests done, it is a moment of mixed emotions and thoughts. After seeing the caller ID show it is the doctor in the seconds before answering, one wonders how bad is it. do they have an answer finally, what will I need to have done, etc.

July 31st 2017 is a day I will never forget. I had been to several doctors and had several tests and x-rays done over the five months prior to that day. I felt a bit like a human pinball bouncing from doctor to doctor. Living with autoimmune it is just a part of life.

I answered the phone wondering what they were going to tell me. Did I have a form of arthritis that would require an immune suppressant? Did I have something more serious? What were they going to tell me?

When I answered the phone, the specialist’s PA told me all my tests came back normal except for testing positive for Celiacs disease and that, oh goody, I needed to see another specialist to confirm.

My first reaction was how could grains with gluten cause my feet to swell up, cause rashes all over my body, cause gastric disturbances, cause joint pain everywhere, and zap me of energy.

So it was education time about what I can eat and what I cannot eat. I am grateful there is no medication needed and I have adjusted to my new normal. I have been able to finally lose weight and my health has improved.

Reflecting back on the months I went from doctor to doctor and the last few years of experiencing symptoms before finding out the cause, I can see how much Jesus carried me through that time. It is because of Jesus that I maintained my teaching and my ministry.

I still don’t like going to doctors. I know I am probably the worst patient a doctor can have. I am back to rarely going. BUT don’t get me wrong, I am grateful for the ones I saw in 2017. It is just that I hope to avoid them for a while. 🙂

Thank you for reading. God Bless
