Yesterday I did something I rarely do. I removed a blogger from following me. I thought I would share why. It has nothing to do with having different beliefs, interests, or anything like that.
My blog is still small enough that I can check out new followers. I often follow them unless their blog is in a language I do not know or the blog is mostly about shopping/cosmetics or something like that.
When I checked out the blog, I realized the posts were written for shock value and had something derogatory about Billy Graham whom I admire. I am not into shock to try to get a following and it seemed in poor taste to me, so I removed the blogger from following me.
There is no absolute list of rules for blogging etiquette, but I have my own I thought I would share.
1- Don’t just be a serial liker. I mean don’t just scroll down your reader to click like without actually viewing the post. That seems disingenuous to me.
2- Don’t leave comments that are really only plugging your blog with a link.
3- If someone takes time to comment after having read your post, at least check out their blog.
4- I don’t enjoy the game of someone following me to get my attention so I follow them and then I never hear from them again.
5- If I only hear from someone who nominates me for an Award, it makes me think they are only interesting in networking not in true connection.
These are just a few thoughts. Please share yours. I would be interested in what you have to say.
There are many wonderful blogs and bloggers to interact with. The ones who are genuinely connecting with me are the ones who get the most of my attention.
