White Cheddar Popcorn

That is what I was craving BIG TIME while I was taking Prednisone for bronchitis for most of September.

I don’t know why but every time I take Prednisone for bronchitis, I end up craving something different. This time it was white cheddar popcorn. I could eat a whole bag in a short time. Not microwave stuff either. I was craving “Organic White Cheddar Popcorn”.

I seem to crave something different each time I go on that medication One time it was fried chicken, which I can’t eat anymore due to Celiacs. Another time it was chocolate ice cream.

Craving is a feeling that can consume us. I couldn’t stop thinking about white cheddar popcorn. Now I am off the medication and that craving has stopped.

What we crave in life can become our focal point in life.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”.

What we value in life is where our heart is. Jesus used the example of earthly treasures, but the principle applies to anything we desire. Whatever we desire most, will control our lives.

Some things can be good such as wanting to stay healthy. Taking care of ourselves is a good thing, but if it is all consuming in our lives, it can get out of control if we sacrifice relationships to pursue fitness.

It is fun to have a favorite sports team, but that can get out of hand. I have seen basements of people who have spent thousands of dollars collecting memorabilia about their favorite sports team.

We all need clothes, but if someone has 50 or more pairs of shoes, that is a lot of money spent on things we won’t wear that often. That is not a problem for me. I only have 2 pairs of shoes. 🙂

Some desires end up becoming harmful addictions that take over our lives such as alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex, and even the internet. The good news is that Jesus can set us free from addiction.

Jesus spoke of the remedy for the problem of things controlling our lives. He also said in Matthew 6:

“So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear? For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”

God knows what we truly need and he cares about us. The problem is not the things we want, it is putting them first in our lives and letting them control us. If we seek God first, we can be free to truly experience life, friendships, love, and the things of this life will become less important. It is all about keeping things in their proper place with the right perspective, so they do not control us.

By the way, there will be no white cheddar popcorn for me today. Today I will enjoy my favorite recipe which is to visit a friend from another country to eat lunch with them. 🙂

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  7. When I think about cravings, I think about the children of Israel who craved quail rather than the manna God provided for them. God wasn’t too happy with them. We were made to crave God!
