Winter blues?

The Holidays are over. Christmas and New Years have come and gone. If I was living in a warm climate like some of my followers in places like South Africa, Australia, Jamaica, Antigua, Brazil or other warm places, I would perhaps go to the beach.

But for those of us in the U.S., Canada, and other northern countries, when the holidays are over, it means it is just boring winter time. We have more hours of dark than sunlight and it is cold.

Sound depressing? For some it can be.

Soon I will be back to teaching classes, next week in fact. It helps to get back to real life after a break. But as someone who lives with depression.anxiety caused by chronic illness, what helps me the most?

Each day I realize there is opportunity for me to share the love of Jesus with refugees and immigrants. Each morning I begin my day in prayer and listening to worship music. It is my relationship with Jesus that helps me the most.

It also helps to get out and be with people. I enjoy going to coffee shops. The ones I go to regularly are places that I know the people who work there. I have also met some of the other regular customers.

Visiting my refugee and immigrants friends is great. We eat, drink tea afterwards and sit and talk. Thursday evening I did just that. I visited a family from Iraq. We ate dinner and then sat down for tea and conversation for a few hours.

Writing helps too. Although I tend to get absorbed in it and forget to do things like eat until I am really really hungry.

What do you do to beat the winter blues? Or for those in warmer climates the pot-holiday blues. 🙂

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. *laughs in 80-degree weather*
    More like winter heat xD

  2. Feeling grateful for the days where it’s not dark, rainy and windy all day is a big one and just trying not to moan about the weather as much. Also climbing a lot because it’s the one thing that really gives me life.

    1. Climbing looks fun but I can’t do it. I like walking in an aqua track though

  3. Spending time with people you enjoy is always a good way to get through the gloomy winter months.

    1. Yes especially if they are good cooks lol 🤗❤️🤗

  4. After the excitement of Christmas you tend to feel a little down in your spirit. As you said, this is a perfect opportunity to spend time with God and reflect. I am living in the warm sunny caribbean so many visitors and residence are sailing, snorkling, surfing and enjoying the beach.⛱🌊🌞. Personally, I don’t like going to the beach during this time of the year because it is often windy and the sea is rough most times. I hope you will be able to take a caribbean cruise sometime soon. 🙂

    1. a cruise would be fun 🙂

  5. It really helps to remember all the things you’re grateful for!

  6. As soon as the Winter Solstice arrives I begin looking at the sunrise/sunset times and am joyful when the mornings begin to lightening earlier and the evenings darken later. Even if it is only by a minute every few days it reminds me longer days on the way!

  7. Thinking of things I have to be thankful for, quiet time with God, spending time talking and laughing with family and friends, blogging, decluttering areas that became problematic during bouts of fatigue and brain fog.

  9. Very nice post and fantastic encouraging ideas! Love this! I tend to get down in the month of February a lot of times, hopefully this year will be different😀♥️

    1. Thank you little sister. Are you ready for the snow?

      1. Well I was!! And then my husband said the percentage/chance went down and they’re only expecting 1 inch…maybe you guys are supposed to get more than our side of the state?

      2. less than an inch here I think

  10. Stay in the house under the blankets and wait for spring… jk 😉 (but does have a grain of truth). Staying physically active, i.e. maintaining workouts despite not being motivated to go out to the gym in cold weather, is helpful to me–mentally but also physically because it gets my blood flowing!

    1. Staying in the warmth does sound good 😂
