In the military and for first responders like police, got your six has important meaning. Got your six means- I have got your back. You can count on me.

In my life group Sunday as we were talking, I asked one of the members who was in the army how he felt having his men with him. He shared that knowing 25 men are with him and have his back makes all the difference.

In life, situations can arise that surprise us, turn our lives upside down, or bring us down. We do not know what will happen the next day even though we try to assure ourselves tomorrow is planned.

The good news is that there is someone who always has our back, has got our six. Isaiah 58:8:

“then your righteousness will go before you,
and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.”

Jesus is our rear guard. He covers what we don’t see coming. He is never surprised. Oh and even better- He has all power.

God tells us to be strong and of courage, but we have to remember that when God encourages us to be strong and of courage, he gives the reason why. In Joshua 1 we read:

“I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.”

God does not tell us to be strong and courageous relying on ourselves. It is based on the fact that he is with us. He will never leave us.

Interesting to me is the promise of I will never leave you nor forsake you is the same promise Jesus made to us in Matthew 28.

For me it is not so much of an issue if I travel to another country or meet with people from other cultures in my city. But send me to a doctor and my blood pressure goes up. Doctors’ offices are places I need to remember God is with me.

Shopping malls can make my blood pressure go up too but since shopping is one of the most bring things in life, that is not an issue because I don’t go to shopping malls. But I digress.

Whatever situation we face, doctors, financial issues, chronic illness, family problems, a job search, God has our back and is always with us.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.
