I read an excellent article by a trauma psychologist about the global pandemic we are currently in. The article is A Trauma Psychologist Weighs in on the Risks of ‘Motivational’ Pressure During the Quarantine by Anne Reneau.

She makes some valid points. This global pandemic and accompanying quarantines and self isolating strategies is something we have not experienced in our life times. There have been localized concerns, but nothing to the global extent we are faced with. People cope differently and some people struggle with issues like depression and anxiety.

That is why I have avoided posting motivational type posts such as- If you don’t acquire a new skill during this time…

The example I prefer to follow is that of Jesus in Matthew 9:

“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”

Compassion and understanding are to important right now. They always are, but we are in a crisis we do not have a reference point for. Jesus saw the people and their needs and was filled with COMPASSION. My understanding is that the word for compassion in the original language gives the idea of feeling like one is overwhelmed with compassion.

Let’s remember to show the kindness and compassion of Jesus as we all go through this time.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. Matt, your sharing of this article helps all of us. I agree with your observation about keeping our eyes on our faith as it nourishes our hope. Everyone uses his or her uniqueness to navigate this pandemic. Those with emotional and anxiety issues face challenges which we all need to show compassion toward.

    1. Glad to share it. How are you?

  2. Thanks for sharing the article. Having understanding and compassion toward others will always exemplify the love of Christ. What we do need to do during this time is seek the Lord through prayer. He’ll give us wisdom and tell us what actions, if any, that we should take. Just because someone is super busy doesn’t mean they are being fruitful. Sometimes less is more.

  3. Listening to God and following Jesus’ example is all the motivation we need right now. It is right, and it is pure. God bless you, Matt🌼

  6. Wow. Thanks for sharing the article big bro. It’s true a lot is happening in this time and more than ever even as we show love and compassion, we need to keep extending our prayers to lives (known and unknown). A lot of individuals need God’s peace at this time. Sighs.

I pray this all gets by soon. Amen. 🙏
