Fear

Fear is a powerful emotion. Fear can be a healthy thing for example choosing not to swim in a pond full of alligators. Fear can be unhealthy if it leads to an irrational fear of something. It can be paralyzing at times too.

During this time of so much uncertainty in the world, fear would be a completely understandable emotion.

There is a caveat to being told not to fear in the bible. We are not merely told to not fear. Yes, God told people to not fear. God doesn’t ask us to simply “Man up” or “Woman up”. God gives us the reason to not be afraid when he calls us to do something.

In Isaiah 41:10 we see:

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”

That is a repeated theme in the bible- God telling us to not fear because He is with us, He will help us, He will strengthen us.

When God tells us not to fear, He is not telling us to have a false sense of bravado, He is telling us the reason we do not need to fear is because he is with us.

God told Joshua to not be afraid in Joshua 1:

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

The reason God gives to Joshua to be strong and courageous and not be afraid or discouraged is because God is with us wherever we go.

I love the old song Be Strong and Take Courage, so I am sharing it in this post.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. Smiles. Don’t go swimming in it. 😂
I love that we don’t have to ignore our fears but give it all up to Him in exchange for His courage knowing we are moving in His strength. 💃
