Identity

In a time that self identifying seems to be all the craze and stretches or goes beyond the limits of reality, identity comes to my mind but not in the self identifying sense. Self identifying places one’s self at the center. The identity I am thinking about is the identity our creator says we have. By looking at our God given identity, it places God not self at the center. By humbly accepting our God given identity out of appreciation, it brings wholeness to our lives.

Some aspects of our God given identity that we receive when we come to trust in Jesus:

Child of God

1st John 3:1- See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Out of God’s love, he adopts us into his family and calls us his children. Child of God is the highest calling any of us could ever hope for.

Citizen of Heaven

Philippians 3:20- But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,

Our citizenship in heaven is for all eternity and can never be taken from us. We can be encouraged that one day Jesus will come for us to take us to our eternal home.

New Creation

2nd Corinthians 5:17- Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:. The old has gone, the new is here!

In Jesus lives are transformed. He brings us to a new life. He loves us the way we are when we come to him but loves us too much to leave us the way we are. He transforms our lives and gives us new meaning.

Royal Priest

1st Peter 2:9- But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

We are called to pray for others. We are chosen to be a royal priest. Think of the tremendous privilege to be able to come before the throne of grace at anytime to pray not just for ourselves but also for others.

Ambassador of Christ

2nd Corinthians 5:20- We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.

We have the privilege of representing Jesus to others.

The identity God gives us is a high calling. It is a calling that we do not deserve but is a free gift for all who will come to Jesus seeking him to be their Savior. When we realize the identity God gives us, it can lift us up in our souls and spirits.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

      1. Well, you know what having health issues is like. I’m still muddling through a season of worse pain and scraping by, day to day. I know that better days are always ahead and I give thanks for that. I also give thanks that on my very worst days I still have a heavenly inheritance to look forward to. There are so very many who do not, so I have nothing to complain over. Blessings to you!

  1. Great message. We think alike in the Lord. The post I scheduled for tomorrow has 2nd Corinthians 5:17- Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:. The old has gone, the new is here!

  2. In this crazy world that is ever changing, I am thankful we have our identity in Christ. It provides us an anchor of security. Thanks big brother.
