Children are resilient is something we hear but there is another truth, which is children remember. That was my thought after hearing what the five year old son of my friends Alexey and Ruslana from Ukraine said while Alexey was being interviewed by our local TV station.

Samuel is their five year old son. He is a joy to be around. Every time I visit their home he runs to hug me. When I see him, I say, “Samuel moi druh-мій друг” which is Samuel my friend.

When Samuel heard his father being interviewed and his comments about the war and coming to America, Samuel told his mom, Ruslana, the war was scary. Samuel remembers the bombs and other sounds of the war. He was only four when they left Ukraine.

When Ruslana shared this with me before class yesterday, I could see how much it hurt her that her son remembered. We talked about that it is good that Samuel can talk with her and Alexey and not feel like he has to hide his feelings.

Yes children are resilient, but they also remember, We can be a blessing by listening to them. We can pray for them. We can reflect Jesus to them.

Please pray for Samuel and the numerous other children who remember the war.

P.S. the photo above is not of Samuel.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.
