It is Independence Day here in the USA. It marks the birth of the United States as the colonies of England declared independence. That was done through a document called The Declaration of Independence. Of course the King of England at the time did not agree, so a war ensued which the colonists won. Now the USA and England are friends and have been for a long time, so no worries there.

The famous phrase from The Declaration of Independence is:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
So the founders of the USA recognized rights as coming from God.
I am grateful for the freedoms we have here, but as grateful as I am for the rights and freedom we have, there is something I am more grateful for and that is the right Jesus gives anyone who believes in him. In John 1:12-13 we read:
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
When we trust in Jesus as our savior, he gives us the right to become children of God. Jesus procured that right for us by dying for us on the cross to die for our sins. My freedom and rights in Jesus came at a cost. It cost Jesus’s sacrifice.
My rights and freedoms in America also came at a great cost as countless men and woman have sacrificed their lives defending our freedom here in the USA.
