It has been one year since my old van stopped working. The engine was shot. Confession time- I waited until today to sell it to a salvage yard. They got it this morning. So why did it take so long for me to do so?

Well for one, living with chronic illness and being in pain all of the time made it difficult to clean it out of all the items I had in it.

There was also the issue of the fact that the van was a gift from people at my church in 2009. I called it my Jesus van. So call me silly but letting it go was a bit of a bummer in the sense that the reminder of their kindness is gone.

In with the new, or newer, happened 11 months ago as God’s people so generously donated money so I could buy my current vehicle. A pleasant recent development is that Hyundai extended the warranty to 15 years due to a possible problem which I have not encountered yet.

This morning I thought about Isaiah 43:19 as my old van was towed away.

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

God is always doing a new thing in our lives. He is the great I Am meaning he is the eternally present one. We do not need to hang on to the past like I did with my old van.

Each day God is doing a new thing and if our eyes are open, we can perceive it.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. Praise God for the new wondrous things that God is bringing into our lives! He is so good. Blessings of pain free days, because Jesus took all your pain on his body.

  2. Very nice! I had to sell a car for salvage recently and it was kind of hard, even though I knew it was not repairable. We went a lot of miles together.

    1. The mileage and memories with a car are special

  3. Amen and amen 🙏🏽 we do have the tendency to hang on to ‘old’ things when the Lord has so much more to offer but we hold on our hand the things of yesteryear.
    Clean slates and new beginnings

    1. Clean slates are wonderful like a fresh new snow 🙂

  4. Ha, you are more like me than I thought. I hang on to things as well.

    1. I need to do more clearing out of things lol

  5. Wonderful! We do not need to hold on to the past or old stuff because the Lord is always preparing something better for us. What a wonderful God we serve.

    1. God is always doing a new thing 🙂

  6. Very generous of your church to make those donations. I had a similar experience when I needed a new wheelchair. Yes – God is always doing a new thing. I think in the case of chronic illness or quadriplegia, it’s easy for me to take my eyes off of the wonderful plans he has, and only focus on the pain at the moment. Great post.

    1. Even when we take our eyes off what he is doing, he is still at work in our lives 🙂

  7. I understand not wanting to get rid! I to hold onto momentos – they are meaningful memories and moments of goodness. Yes, His blessings are new every morning, but I don’t want to forget the blessings of yesterday, either. You look very swish in your Jesus-car!
