Yesterday morning in my conversation group at church, a 90 year old woman from the country of Georgia came. I knew she played and taught piano. Her 60 year old son brought her. She wants to improve her English. It impressed me that at the age of 90 she wants to keep learning.

After the conversation group, I asked her and her son to follow me. We went to the worship center for my church, where I showed her the grand piano and asked her to play a song. She sat down at the piano and played beautifully. After she played, she used her translator app to tell me, “it needs tuning.” That gave me a laugh.

In the evening, I went to my friend Alekseyi’s home for dinner. During the dinner, I shared this story. Then Alekseyi told me, “she is a big star.” So evidently my 90 year old student not only played and taught piano in Georgia, she was a star concert pianist.

From interacting with her, there were some lessons for life. We are never too old to learn, a reminder to not judge a book by its cover, and an expert will notice things others don’t.

I also thought about how God cares about us so much that he helps us to see things in our lives that need tuning.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. Beautiful lessons. May we keep learning and may we keep following the Lord’s guidance when He shows us we need tuning.

  2. Amen-Beautiful! Blessed Evenings ♥

    1. It was a blessed moment 🙂

  3. Lord does indeed show us when we need tuning. He is after all the expert. May we heed to his voice.
Loved the fact that at 90, she was still so willing and open to learn.

    1. I hope I continue to be willing to learn as I get older

  4. Music bridges all cultures and ages. An expert and music star is not recognized, but her gift makes room for her. The piano needs tuning, and we all need to learn new things no mater our age or barriers.

    1. She is a Jewish woman. I hope to have her play in church sometime but more importantly to share Jesus with her

      1. Yes and amen! Meeting her jar such a time as this to introduce her to her Messiah!

  5. Great, heartwarming post! I like the word-play that God helps us see things that need tuning! So true and punny!!

    1. Thank you little sister. It was a fun morning with her and her son.
How are you? Are you ready for Thanskgiving?

      1. I’m good, yes ready for Thanksgiving, looking forward to a little slow down and time with the family.

      2. Do you buy the turkey or go hunting? 🙂

      3. Lol buy it, I’m sure Nate would want to hunt for one!!

      4. I thought maybe you would do the hunting haha

  6. Blessings Matt for sharing this narrative about the staying power of the human spirit.

    1. She has been through a lot. My prayer is that she comes to know Jesus as her Messiah and Savior
