Here we are folks. It is December 6th and Christmas is fast approaching and yet, it doesn’t seem real to me. Maybe it is because we are in the middle of a heat wave here in Nebraska. The temperature will be a balmy 63f/17c today. In Nebraska in December that is a heat wave. My friends in warmer climates are smiling at that.

Maybe it is because being single the holidays part of it doesn’t have much meaning to me with the over romanticized songs about the magic of Christmas, the crazy shopping, the silly movies etc. I don’t decorate my place at all.

One thing I love though is sharing the gospel message about Jesus during this time. Christmas is after all really all about Jesus coming as a human baby so he could grow to be a man to become our Savior. That is a message I never tire of telling. Christmas happens to be one of those times of year people tend to listen.

I am glad to bless others and show the love of Jesus during this time. Thanks to generous fellow bloggers Ukrainian refugee families will be blessed with Walmart gift cards, so their families can enjoy Christmas.

In the past, I have brought people to Christmas Eve Service with me and to Christmas programs at church, so they could hear about Jesus. So I take advantage of the holiday to share Christ.

But as for the holiday trappings, I am not feeling it and never have really. I am not bah humbug about it like Scrooge in a Christmas Carol. For me it is just getting through the craziness of it all to get back to real life.

I am not trying to be a downer and if you are excited about it all, I am happy for you.

Are you ready for it all?

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

I have always enjoyed this season for myself I thank God that so far my daughter has not been admitted to the hospital for yet another infection I thank God that he has kept both my daughters and I safe from the father and husband who abused us for many years. I am so blessed that the kindness of friends that they sent gift cards so I can buy my daughters a gift this season For me I am learning to slow down more during this advent season
    Blessings my friend

    1. I am glad friends helped you

      1. I have been blessed in many ways

  2. We celebrate the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus the Messiah every day. We celebrate His life daily through obedience and sharing the Gospel in hope of leading others to Him for the salvation of their souls. We do not purchase store bought gifts but give the Word and Plan of Salvation through various means of evangelism. This became our family way many years ago. I am not saying anything is wrong for others to celebrate Christmas, we just celebrate differently.

I feel much the same way. I honestly dislike the rush of shopping and the pressure to decorate the home. This year our main focus is Jesus! And we’ve decided not to do the Santa Claus thing with our child, just Jesus (and a few gifts)! God bless 🙏

    1. In the long run, I think that is good because Santa is fictional and then as the child gets older, they might doubt other things that are true. Also the whole naughty and nice thing and Santa watching paints a picture so different than the gospel. The gospel is that even though we are sinner, Christ died for us because God loves us

Yes, those are exactly my thoughts!

  4. We put up lights, mostly outside and I will put up an outdoor Christmas tree for the winter. I put seed cones on it for the birds that will become part of our live decorations..
We have about 100 tree that grow under the power lines near the road so they have to be cut down…most of our relatives know where to cut their own Christmas tree.

    1. The benefits of living in the countryside- having your own trees to cut or use

  5. Hey Matt, I definitely get it, it does have a totally different effect when you are single, lol. But being able to share the Good News of Our Lord and Savior is truly a blessing that keeps on giving. I get through, by knowing that Jesus is the “Ultimate Gift” that continuously bring comfort and joy all year long ♥ But I too, look for the trappings to all be over, lol!! Have a blessed evening my friend.

    1. Focus on Jesus is the best thing little sister 🙂

  6. The weather has been crazy here!! I’m not complaining though, I’d rather have 60s than 20s or 30s any day!
I haven’t Christmas shopped yet, but I do have my tree and decor up and am enjoying it all. I’m thinking I’m gonna do gift cards this year that way people can enjoy an experience and make memories rather than have to find a spot for more stuff!

    1. Gift cards are good especially for teens because what they want changes every six months 🙂

  7. Matt, I appreciate your outlook. In keeping Jesus as the focus, our Father’s reasoning fills the season. I try to immerse my thoughts and writing with Advent themes of hope, peace, joy, and love. Amazingly, we can celebrate these themes throughout the year. Blessings.

    1. Amen- celebrate them throughout the year not only at Christmas time
