One thing that has not been going well is my attempt to practice driving using my left foot. I have done so in the parking lot at my church when no other cars are there. Why would I try to drive using my left foot? Good question. I am glad you asked.

Sometime in the next few months I will have knee replacement surgery for my right knee. The doctor told me no driving for six weeks. SIX WEEKS!!! The thought of not being going places is enough to drive me crazy.

Back up plans have started to be made such as talking with people to give me rides to go to the college to teach, to my church on weekend mornings, and to the Ukrainian church. But what about hanging out at the coffee shop? I guess Uber will have to do.

There is a fourth book idea bouncing around in my head. I guess if I am stranded at home for six weeks, I could get started on that.

Hopefully Jesus will bless me with divine appointments through the whole experience whether at the hospital, during physical therapy, and other places.

If you are getting the impression that I am not a good patient, you might be correct.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. Oh gosh, so sorry to hear that. I can understand. Even introverts would get cabin fever in that situation. I pray God works things out for the best 🙏

    1. Thank you for praying little sister.
I do enjoy alone time at home but six weeks is a long time lol

  2. Good morning big brother, Matt. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I know you will be a good patient.

    1. Thank you little sister. Will wait and see if I am a good patient 🙂

  3. Hello, brother! I understand so much! I will be praying for your knee replacement surgery (and your bedside disposition, lol!). I get this more than you know! It’s SO hard to be independent and all of a sudden—bam! You’re dependent on everyone around you. For example, today I thought I’d be well enough to just drive myself to have my glasses adjusted. I can’t. I’m too weak for various reasons. Tomorrow I’m dependent on having my sister take off work to get me to my first treatment, as I’m not able to drive afterwards due to my tolerance levels. My head was nodding through your post. And you might surprise yourself—you’ll be a wonderful patient. I can’t help but think of HOW MUCH you help others and how those wonderful friends will want to help you in return. If I lived closer, and was better, you’d bet I’d give you a ride for shared coffee. May God bless you with a wonderful surgical outcome, new inspiration for a book if he desires, and the necessary resources to resume life as you know it. Many blessings and prayers!

    1. Maybe while I am recovering we can have some chat sessions in Zoom
