My Christmas break is over as of today. Thanks to the snow we had, only seven inches total, my break was extended two days. It is time to get back in the classroom and meet my new students for the quarter. I am looking forward to meeting them.

The extra two days of break were not wasted. I spent more time editing and preparing my upcoming book Encounters with the Ancients. The extra time also gave me time to rest up on Monday after a productive yet hectic weekend.

Each time a new quarter of classes starts, I wonder who I will meet and what opportunities Jesus will bring my way. Some of the students are returning students and some are new students. One of my returning students is a woman whose father passed away last November and due to the class she was in being a smaller one and a few days of her being the only student, I was able to listen as she shared about what was going on in her life.

I have been teaching long enough that this past Sunday it happened again. A man from Ukraine who has lived here for fifteen years visited the Ukrainian church. He remembered me from when he took classes fourteen years ago. He was not in one of my classes, but he remembered me. I recognized his face, but did not remember his name. It is a bit awkward to have former students remember me from long ago when I do not remember them or not remember their names.

The snow stopped but now we have bitterly cold temps coming our way. That means waking up a bit earlier, so I can warm up my car. But the coffee is ready for me here at home to start my day.

What will your day bring?

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. We had some crazy snow yesterday & more to come tomorrow & Friday. Fortunately today should be sunny & clear.

    1. Good weather for a picnic haha

  2. Morning, I am that way too, I’m good at remembering faces, but terrible at remembering many names from the past😂
My day will involve much work, and more research. And prayerfully a moment of writing and whatever way God leads me in the rest.

  3. Our new ESL semester doesn’t start for another 2 weeks, so I’m enjoying my Saturday mornings free. However, homeschooling my kids (8th grade & 11th), so my days are full.
I’m not surprised he remembered you, Brother Matt, as you represent Jesus well, whether people know it’s Jesus or not. Blessings to you!

    1. Thank you little sister that is so kind of you to say.
Do you teach ESL too as well as homeschool?

      1. Yes, I homeschool during the week. Our ESL program is on Saturday mornings for 3 hours. My ESL students are eager to learn and appreciate me, unlike my teenagers. 😉

  4. You sound ready to go, Matt! I’m proud of the work you do for others…for HIS Kingdom! We had little snow~more coming and temps dropping Friday night very low for many days. Coffee is on…and I’m moving slow, but moving! Many blessings, brother, for a wonderful quarter! 🙏🏻

    1. Do you like snow?
Coffee is on- three wonderful words 🙂

      1. I do love snow ❄️! It was a bit “slick” on the roads a bit. I’m thankful for snow in which I can get out. And also, snow where I get to snuggle in at times! It makes spring even sweeter. And coffee is on~those are 3 great words indeed! I’m going to join you in that cup in a few minutes myself! Sip sip hooray brother ☕️
