The organic/natural food store that has been next door to my primary coffee shop is moving. Today is the last day at the old location conveniently located next to my coffee shop. It is the end of an era for me.

For years, I could go to the organic/natural store and buy something for lunch from the deli and conveniently come to my coffee shop to eat my lunch and hang out to do blogging or writing while enjoying coffee. Now it is just my coffee shop sitting lonely and missing its friend as of tomorrow. My personal universe feels like it is blowing apart.

A sense of nostalgia is coming over me as I sit in my coffee shop eating food from the store next door. Memories of one of my favorite soups, Mulligatawny, nachos, Fiesta Lime Chicken etc are dancing in my mind. The store’s new location will be a ten minute drive from my coffee shop located next to a different coffee shop. What is a boy to do?

Perhaps I am a creature of habit, but please understand that I wrote most of my book Jesus Understands Trauma while sitting in my favorite coffee shop and enjoying lunch from the store’s deli. If you have received a comment from me on one of your blog posts, it is likely I did so while sitting in my coffee shop enjoying lunch from the store’s deli.

It is the end of an era today, but I will adjust, begrudgingly, to a new normal. I may be kicking and screaming, or perhaps crying, along the way, but adjust I must.

How is your Saturday?

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. My Saturday is going well, brother. Your post reminds of when a favorite bakery in a nearby city closed. Johnson’s was family owned and famous for both their creamy cakes and scrumptious hot rolls. Anyway, after mom and dad retired, there was no one left in the family who wanted to run the place. I’m looking forward to your next book, brother!

    1. Family owned businesses like a bakery are great.
Thank you about the book. I will be publishing soon. By the way. New Breath the Ukrainian church is growing.

      1. I’m glad to hear the Ukrainian church is thriving.

      2. They are excited because the District Superintendent for our denomination- Evangelical Free Church of America- is going to visit and preach in the Ukrainian church March 10.

  2. Perhaps God is giving you a new assignment which requires meeting new people in a new location. You will do fine. 😊 I look forward to hearing about what you discover about that.

    1. A new assignment- interesting idea

      1. Yes. Remember Paul’s vision of the Macedonian call? One door was shut, and another was flung wide open. God was on the move in many hearts.

  3. Adjust-You Must! So sad to hear that…but I know how you feel. When my favorite stores disappear from within the proximity of my morning (coffee)routine, life is just not the same🤨…but only temporarily🤣

    1. Stores? as in plural? as in shopping? Shopping is a bad word for me lol

  4. I’m sorry to hear your favorite shop is relocating. My day is filled with writing, deep contemplation, and rest.

    1. Writing, deep contemplation and rest sound so good

  5. I feel for you Matt, I would struggle with what I loved and held as my favourite places to sit or get lunch from, but that feeling will only be temporary. And I am sure in a bit you will adjust to your new normal.

    1. Thank you Manu. I will adjust 🙂

  6. Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that. I can definitely understand how heartbreaking this is, especially with all the good memories.

    1. Many good memories of divine appointments and writing there

  7. It’s only 10 minutes away? I would possibly check out the other coffee shop so you can continue to enjoy your favorite food.

    1. Yes I can do that or perhaps buy the food and drive to my coffee shop 🙂

  8. Change sometimes opens up another door of opportunity. Back in December, my wife and I discovered a little homegrown coffee shop. The broccoli cheese soup was delicious. Sadly, it closed with the arrival of the new year.

    1. Now I have a craving for broccoli cheese soup 🙂

  9. Ohhhh sorry… I understand, I’m not a huge fan of change so I get it! I am getting better though as I’m seeing that change is inevitable. I’m thankful Jesus is always unchanging!!!

    1. I am not a huge fan of it either but it has been my life since 1989 when I rededicated my life to Jesus lol
