The Spanish department at my college set these books out for anyone to have for free. There were a lot more, so don’t worry I didn’t greedily take all. But when I saw them, I thought of some for me and some for my pastor’s wife who wants to improve her Spanish and perhaps get her husband, my pastor, to join her.

Two other languages I have wanted to learn some phrases in are Ukrainian and Russian. The director for my department let me join her duolingo family plan to practice Ukrainian. Now I need to actually use my lifetime membership for Rosetta Stone for the Russian.

Besides my interest in languages, what motivates me to learn? I studied Spanish starting at the age of 50. I studied Portuguese a few years after that. Now Ukrainian and Russian? What’s the deal? Am I a language nerd?

For me it is all about being able to connect with people to be able to share Jesus with them. I know if I even only learn some phrases, it shows them I respect them and opens doors for me to share Jesus with them.

So off I go into the realm of languages. Adventures await. 🙂

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. I suspect you need a “Language Nerd For Jesus” T-shirt

    1. Love the idea 🙂
new feature- From My Comments today and I am sharing your comment 🙂

  2. Sure sounds like you are a language nerd. How many languages do you think you would have learned if you had started earlier 😅😅

    1. I have often wondered that too. When I was younger- a teen- my city only had 90.000 people and no one from other countries. Now we have almost 300,000 people and the school system had children from over 100 languages.

  3. My BFf and her family are all learning new languages too. I don’t know what app they use but I know it’s free.

    1. Learning new languages is fun 🙂

  4. Matt, you are proof that when you feel the need, you learn phrases of other languages. Never stop learning and sharing the good news of Jesus with others!

    1. Amen never stop learning. It keeps the mind fresh and sharp.
Sharing Jesus never gets old 🙂

  5. I think it is wonderful that you are willing to learn so that you can spread the Good News to all you encounter. Thank God for your director, that was a very sweet gesture. I agree with Gary Fultz, a T-Shirt is sufficient😂 and inspiring for all that sees it! Take Care.

    1. Thank you little sister. So you have seconded Gary’s nomination for a T-Shirt for me. Looks like it is official. 🙂
