I had my pre-surgery phone call with the surgical hospital nurse for her to give me the info I need to know. I had two concerns before the conversation. The first was I did not want to be awake during the surgery after seeing spinal anesthesia on the info from the doctor’s office. She assured me I would not be awake during surgery.

When she told me I could drink water, apple juice or black coffee before 9:30 the day of surgery, I felt a sense of relief as she told me I could drink coffee. She emphasized black coffee only. For this coffee connoisseur, that is exactly the way I like my coffee. When she told me black coffee only, I thought to myself- “That is the only true way to drink coffee. All those sugary drinks are repurposed soda.”

I am still not looking forward to having surgery, but I can have coffee that morning.

I have been looking at the website for the place. It is a surgical hospital for mostly people who only stay overnight or are outpatient. It looks like a nice place and of course the website emphasizes the positives there.

I have been many places in the world, Romania seven times, Brazil twice, Mexico, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, England, The Netherlands, and have had coffee in all of those places. I do not include my one time in Canada for this because I was only 13 on a Boy Scouts canoe trip and coffee was not part of my life yet, In all of my travels, there have been two constants, Jesus is always with me wherever I go and I could have coffee.

So as I prepare for surgery on March 11th, knowing I can have coffee that day is somewhat comforting. Knowing Jesus is always with me even more so.

It is March 1st today, Next Monday is pre-surgery physical day and then comes THE DAY, March 11th. But I can have coffee.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  9. Hooray for coffee! I’m not a big fan of a spinal either. I experienced some side effects when I had a hernia repair several years ago. Praying for your surgery to be routine without any issues as well as a successful and smooth as possible rehab.

I was relieved when the nurse told I would not be awake. I really would not want to be awake hearing the sounds of a bone saw
