John 10:25-30: Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”
Sunday afternoon at New Breath, twenty-two month old Nathan heard his father’s voice as his father was speaking in the church. Little Nathan came running in saying repeatedly, “Tata” meaning dad. He ran up to his dad and his dad picked him up and continued speaking. His dad held Nathan until his mom came to get him.
Nathan is not old enough to understand that his dad was sharing from the bible and that the congregation was listening to his dad. Nathan was not aware of anything except that he heard his dad’s voice and he wanted to be with his dad in his dad’s arms.
Jesus’s voice calls to us to come spend time with him. Jesus’s voice is not a condemning voice. It is the voice of our Savior who loves us. The question is whether we respond to his voice. His voice is always calling to us.
