As I walked the block and a half from my morning class, welcoming new refugees, to the college building downtown, that nasty smell of cigarette smoke was in the air. Having asthma, that is a smell never welcomed by me.

But as I was walking, I was singing hallelujah to myself, and instead of coughing to express disapproval, as I walked by the source, I noted it was a small woman maybe in her 40s.

I stopped, looked at her, and said, “Jesus loves you.” She smiled and said she talks to him every day. I did not have much time other than to say, “Jesus loves you.” But that brief interaction perhaps brightened her morning. It wasn’t some earth shattering moment, but a simple act of kindness that in the past I would have failed to do in such a situation.

Kindness is what the bible talks about in regards to people repenting and coming to God. Romans 2:4 says

Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

My desire is to continue to show kindness.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

    1. Thank you little sister. Simple acts of kindness can lead to opportunities to share Jesus 🙂

  2. I smiled at an older woman in Walmart one day. She gave a huge smile back to me and then told me that all day she had been looking for a smile. One little smile and then a kind word totally changed her countenance…and mine!

    1. An act of kindness at Walmart 🙂
